Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday which celebrates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire. It is typically celebrated in the winter on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev, which coincides with late November and/or December on the secular calendar. Each day of Hanukkah is celebrated with the lighting of the traditional eight-branched Menorah. With each new day, the candles are progressively lit from right to left.
