- Lighting the Menorah: The menorah is lit every evening for eight days during Hanukkah, each night an additional candle is lit until all eight candles are lit.
- Playing Dreidel: A traditional four-sided spinning top which is used to play a gambling game. The tradition is to award the winner with small amounts of money or chocolate coins in exchange for correctly guessing the outcome of the spin.
- Eating Fried Foods: Fried foods such as latkes (potato pancakes) and doughnuts are eaten in memory of the oil that miraculously lasted 8 days when the Macabees purified the Second Temple.
- Gift-Giving: Gifts are exchanged amongst family and friends, usually small presents such as chocolate, coins, clothes or books.
