What Is One Similarity Of Hanukkah And Christmas?
The most obvious similarity of Hanukkah and Christmas is that they are both celebrated around the same time and both emphasize certain religious beliefs. Both Jewish and Christian faiths venerate the time of year as important for their beliefs and faith in God.
Hanukkah
Hanukkah is an 8-day commemoration of the Jewish people’s rededication to their one God after a victory over their oppressors. The Maccabees, a group of Jewish warriors, defeated the despised Syrians and reclaimed the freedom to worship their God, that they had been robbed of for some time. To celebrate this victory and rededication their temple was rededicated and it is celebrated as Hanukkah.
Christmas
Christmas focuses on the birth of Jesus, the son of God and saviour of Christians worldwide. Jesus was born in Bethlehem and Christians around the world celebrate his birth every year in December and January. Christmas is a major holiday and the focus is on giving presents to those we love, spending time with family and reflecting on Jesus’ birth and teachings.

- Time of year: Despite having different origins, both Hanukkah and Christmas are celebrated during the same part of the year.
- Religious beliefs: Both holidays are based around religious beliefs.
